Th.D. Prerequisites

Prerequisites:
Each applicant, unless exempted by the Committee on Advanced Degrees, must:

1. complete and submit the application by Feb.1 of the year of intended enrollment;
2. present transcripts of all academic work above the secondary school level;
3. submit letters from three former instrutors supporting the applicant's ability to undertake study on the doctoral level, and from the applicant's bishop where appropriate (or comparable church leader in the case of other denominations);
4. submit a 10-20-page sample of academic writing, which should include footnotes and bibliography (the sample may be work completed in a previous academic program);
5. submit evidence of ability in foreign language(s) relevant to the proposed field of study;
6. be interviewed by the Committee;
7. present results of the Graduate Record Examination;
8. in the case of applicants whose first language is not English, (a) present results of the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination, and (b) take the oral English test designed by the American Council of Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL), registering for this test online at www.actfl.org.
