Office: Seabury Hall, Fourth Floor
The Rev. Dr. Mitties McDonald DeChamplain is Trinity Church Professor of Preaching at The General Theological Seminary in New York City. She was appointed to this position in the Fall of 1998. Prior to coming to GTS, she was a professor in the Preaching Department at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California (1985-1998). Professor DeChamplain was ordained to the priesthood on January 13, 1996 in the Diocese of Los Angeles. She holds a B.S. and M.A. degree in Communication Studies from Northwestern University (1970, 1971). Her Ph.D. in Communication Arts and Sciences is from the University of Southern California. (1987), specializing in Political Campaign Communication. In addition to her preaching courses at General Seminary, Prof. DeChamplain serves as Vicar of St. Clement’s Episcopal Church in Hell’s Kitchen. St. Clement’s houses one of the oldest legitimate off-Broadway theaters in New York City. Sunday worship happens on the set of whatever theatrical production is playing. The altar is center-stage for services, followed by a strike of the church set-up after the Holy Eucharist to make way for the Sunday matinee. Working with the people of St. Clement’s has been a constant source of enrichment for her teaching and preaching life at GTS.
