Faculty Note - Dr. David Hurd

Dr. David Hurd, Professor of Church Music, was one of three judges of the 2011 Sorel Composition Competition to select a new work for chorus and organ to be performed by Voices of Ascension as part of the Manton Memorial Organ Inauguration Series at Manhattan's Church of the Ascension. He was also one of three judges for the American Guild of Organists/Marilyn Mason Composition Competition for an organ work to be premiered at the 2012 A.G.O. National Convention in Nashville, TN. Prof. Hurd’s plainsong-inspired "Mass in Honor of Saint Cecilia," commissioned last winter by the Archdiocese of Omaha, has been published by Liturgical Press as one of ten new settings in a collection entitled Lift Up Your Hearts. His recent festival anthem, "As Newborn Stars Were Stirred to Song," on a text by Carl P. Daw, Jr. has been published by Trinitas (OCP).
