Thanksgiving with Turkish Muslims

The Rev. K. Jeanne Person, Director of the Center for Christian Spirituality, was a featured speaker on Monday, November 21, at an interfaith, multicultural Thanksgiving and Eid al-Adha supper hosted by the Turkish Cultural Center in Sunnyside, Queens. She taught the meaning and customs of Thanksgiving in the United States, especially as shaped by the harvest festivals of Judaism and Christianity, and a Muslim speaker explained the meaning and customs of Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice, within the Turkish Muslim community. The evening featured a rich menu consisting of a traditional U.S. Thanksgiving dinner (the Turkish guests graciously tried the mashed potatoes and green bean casserole) and Turkish dishes.
