Really, there are Roman Catholic bishops, priests and deacons who are women. One has a congregation in New York City! The Society of St. Blandina invites you to a special screening this Friday evening of Pink Smoke Over the Vatican, with the Rev. Gabriella Velardi Ward, ordained as priest in the Roman Catholic Church and pastor of the St. Praexidus R.C. faith community in New York City. Pink Smoke Over the Vatican is a documentary film about women who have been ordained as Roman Catholic bishops, priests and deacons. In 2008, the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a sweeping decree of automatic excommunication for any bishop who ordains a woman, and any woman who receives the holy order, in the Roman Catholic church. This documentary chronicles the events that led to this action and tells the stories of the determined clergy in the Womenpriests movement, both women and men, who vow to continue to serve their beloved church in a renewed priestly ministry that welcomes all to celebrate the sacraments in inclusive, Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered communities.
The screening begins at 7pm on Friday, April 13, in Seabury Auditorium. To tell St. Blandina you are coming, click here.
