The Very Rev. Mark B. Pendleton (Class of '91) Named Candidate for Bishop of Western Massachusetts

The Very. Rev Mark B. Pendleton, GTS Class of 1991 and currently dean Christ Church Cathedral, Hartford, Connecticut, is one of five candidates for ninth bishop of the Diocese of Western Massachusetts. After a childhood in Ohio, Pendleton lived in Columbia, South America where he says he was "profoundly impacted by the dynamic and prophetic movement of the Holy Spirit throughout Latin America that inspired the likes of Archbisop Oscar Romero to stand with the poor."

He became involved in the Episcopal campus ministry in 1984 where he "came to appreciate the importance of faith communities being visible and active on college campuses, shepherding young adults through those key years of questioning and growth."

The election of the ninth bishop of Western Massachusetts is scheduled for June 2 at Christ Church Cathedral, Springfield. All candidates will be in the Diocese of Western Massachusetts for four public gatherings during the week of May 21.
