Join the Chapel Chimers

We have been ringing the chapel chimes here at General for many, many years and our neighbors have come to appreciate our spiritual presence in the midst of the secular world that surrounds us.  And we all enjoy our favorite hymns pealing out into the community we so love. As a new year begins, all new and continuing students are invited to join the Guild of Chimers.  The Guild is responsible for playing the chimes at appointed times, and it really is a great deal of fun.  It is very basic renditions of the hymnal, and if you are able to read simple music (or are willing to learn), you will be able to play the chimes.

Usually, chimers play hymns for the ten minutes proceeding the evening services (5:20-5:30 on M, T, W, Th, and F) and before the Friday afternoon Eucharist (12:35-12:45 on Fridays).  You would join with at least one experienced chimer on a day that is convenient for you.

If you are interested or just curious, please e-mail (The Rev.) Mary Julia Jett (mjett@gts.edu or mjett@stmvnyc.org) and she will set up a time for you to visit to see how the chimes are played.
