A Centering Prayer group is forming and you (all members of the community - spartners, students, faculty, staff) are invited to participate as often or as little as you choose. We will meet each Wednesday afternoon at 4:55 pm in the basement common room of Dodge Hall. We will enter in silence, sit in Centering Prayer for about 20 minutes and end at the ringing of the Angelus Bells bidding Evening Prayer or Evensong. There may be a few minutes for brief conversation just before the bells ring. For now we have chosen to meet in Dodge Hall because it is very "quiet," and we want to avoid uneeded distractions. If need be, we can move to another space later on. If you do not live in Dodge Hall, you probably don't have general access to that building. To get to Centering Prayer, enter the Chapel Tower room (this is the side entrance) and go down the stairs (be careful on the stairs), at the bottom go toward the 21st wall, then turn right and proceed (think "catacombs") to the common room of Dodge Hall. This sounds complicated but it is not - it's easy.We do not plan any organized discussion or reading that often is associated with Centering Prayer groups because most of us have enough other study to do. This will simply be an opportunity to sit in silence with God and let God enfold you for a few minutes. If you are not familiar with Centering Prayer, please come a few minutes early and we can discuss it briefly. Basically, Centering Prayer is simply sitting in silence with God, while trying to empty your busy mind of any thoughs that distract you. It is amazing how refreshing and spiritually renewing this can be. And everyone succeeds the first time!!
