As General Seminary continues to await the restoration of power after Hurricane Sandy, and with everyone in residence on the close without electricity or hot water, a Manhattan parish is welcoming members of the seminary community to use its gym showers. The invitation came from the Rev. Buddy Stallings, a GTS graduate and priest-in-charge at St. Bartholomew's Church on Park Avenue in midtown. Here is a letter from Dean Patrick Malloy describing how the community may access the gym.
November 1, 2012
I have just spoken to Fr. Buddy Stallings, the priest-in-charge of St. Bartholomew's, 51st and Park, where there is a gymnasium. That means there are also showers and plenty of hot water. Fr. Stallings has invited residents of the Close to come to St. Bart's until 5:00 today and from 9:00 to 5:00 tomorrow to use the facilities. He made it clear that the locker rooms and showers are not "posh," but I assured him that no one would mind one bit.
If you choose to take St. Bart's up on the offer, please take your own towel and other supplies. You must show your General ID to the receptionist at "St. Bart's Central," the reception desk in the narthex. You will be directed to the gym.Father Stallings, himself a GTS grad, has shown himself to be a loyal alumnus. We owe him our gratitude.
Please pass the word.
