On Tuesday, March 12, 2013, you are invited to Evening Prayer with guests who are participating in The Episcopal Peace Fellowship's Young Adult Urban Pilgrimage to New York City. The Young Adult Urban Pilgrimages are an alternative spring break program for college students and young adults. Led by the Rev. Stephanie Shockley, GTS '09, the New York City pilgrimage, March 8-12, 2013, will explore issues of economic inequality through the lens of recovery from natural disaster. The pilgrims will visit places devastated by Hurricane Sandy, including by joining a Walk a Mile in Our Shoes event on Staten Island addressing the issue of mold, and meet with leaders involved in Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Sandy. The pilgrims will learn about efforts to help communities still devastated by Sandy, see recovery work in progress, and witness how much still needs to be done. Special focus will be on the struggles of the poor, the elderly, and those who are undocumented in the wake of the disaster.
The young adults will spend the last day of their pilgrimage in retreat, reflecting on their experience, then come to General Seminary for Evening Prayer and a concluding supper as guests of the Center for Christian Spirituality.
If you are on the Close for Spring Break, please especially come for Evening Prayer next Tuesday to greet and pray with the young adult pilgrims.
