The Rev. Richard M. Spielmann, Th.D., who held two degrees from the General Seminary, died peacefully on March 26, 2013 in Tempe, Arizona at the age of 83. Richard earned his S.T.B. (M.Div.) degree with honors in 1956, served as a Fellow and Tutor from 1956 to 1959, and was awarded his Th.D. degree in 1964. He was the Rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Barre, Vermont from 1959-63, and in 1963 joined the faculty of Bexley Hall, where he taught at its locations in Gambier, Ohio and then Rochester, New York until he retired in 1992 as Eleutheros Cooke Professor Emeritus of Ecclesiastical History. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet; daughter, Katherine (William Edwards); son, Christopher (Jeanna); and granddaughter, Emily Edwards. Both Katherine and Christopher were baptized in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd. The Burial Office and Holy Eucharist were celebrated at the Church of the Epiphany in Tempe, Arizona on April 5.
