The Rev. Dr. William Hethcock (’59) Pens New Book on Preaching

The Rev. Dr. William Hethcock, Class of 1959 and Professor Emeritus of Homiletics at The School of Hethcock_How to Get Your Sermon Heard_Cover Theology at Sewanee, has recently published a new book How to Get Your Sermon Heard: Preaching to Win Minds and Hearts. Based on years of reading sermons and research with sermon-listening groups, the work provides fresh insights on nearly every aspect of homiletical practice. Hethcock’s wisdom will be helpful to experienced preachers who wish to polish their skills, seminarians who are just learning, and deacons and lay people who must often learn without formal instruction. Hethcock served congregations in Greensboro and Durham, N.C. The Bishop of the Diocese of North Carolina called him to work as program director on the diocesan staff. He also served at Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati, Ohio. At The School of Theology, Hethcock was director of field education and taught homiletics. After his retirement, he taught homiletics at Virginia Theological Seminary.
