As a new year begins, The General Theological Seminary offers an off-site retreat to all members of the community. Faculty, staff, spouses/partners, and students in any degree programs may reserve one (or two, in the case of a couple) of fifteen remaining spaces at Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, NY for the weekend of September 13 - 15.
The retreat will be modeled on Quiet Days, which are less heavily programmed than some thematic retreats, and include ample time for worship, reflection, and rest. Our two days at Holy Cross will be spent eating and worshiping with the community of brothers who reside there (for a wonderful description of their daily worship, click here). We will hear from them about the shape and patterns of Anglican monasticism, and will spend time with an Anglican sister whose community is also housed at the monastery. Opportunities for nature walks, pastoral conversations, confession, prayer, and study may be made available.
Our group will arrive at Holy Cross in time for vespers at 5 PM on Friday and will depart for Chelsea after lunch on Sunday afternoon. If you are a middler, senior, Anglican Studies, or other student who has field education responsibilities on Sunday, please don't let that discourage you from coming, even if you must leave Saturday evening.
Transportation is the only cost associated with this retreat. Holy Cross Monastery is easily accessible by rail and limited space is available in at least one automobile.
Contact The Rev. Danielle Thompson, Chaplain for Pastoral Care (firstname.lastname@example.org) to register or learn more—and please consider making this retreat a part of your new year at GTS!
