On three Wednesday evenings in the Michaelmas 2013 term, young adults in the New York Intern Program will join the seminary community for Compline sung by the Guild of Precentors. The first sung Compline will be next Wednesday, September 25, 2013, beginning at 8:45 p.m. in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd. William Ogburn, Chief Precentor, will officiate. You are cordially invited to join in the liturgy, singing and praying, and offering warm greetings to the young adults. (On just these three Wednesdays, sung Compline will begin an hour earlier compared with 9:45 p.m. each Monday — a gesture of hospitality by the Guild of Precenters. Thank you!)
The New York Intern Program, part of the Episcopal Service Corps, is an opportunity for young adults to spend a year in New York City, living in intentional community, working in various social service and justice settings, pursuing formation as leaders, and discerning their future vocations. This academic year, 17 young adults are interns in one of three communities: at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Harlem; The Church of the Intercession, Harlem; and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Staten Island.
Throughout the year, the young adults receive lots of support, including from General Seminary students are who serving as their spiritual directors. Additionally, the Seminary is hosting a gathering of all of the interns on the three Wednesday evenings, on September 25, October 30, and November 20, 2013, that will conclude with sung Compline offered by the Precentors.
This is a lovely opportunity both to pray Compline and to interact with young adults in the Episcopal Service Corps. Please do come!
