During Orientation Week, the incoming students composed a covenant based on the promises made in Baptism. In honor of today's Matriculation Ceremony, here are the commitments the newest members of our community have made to one another, and to all of us: Will you continue in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers? We will worship and study in community.
Will you persevere in resisting evil, and whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord? We will practice confession and receive absolution; We will do our best to discern the truth in all situations.
Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ? We will move towards a place of honest sharing with each other. We will be supportive of each other. We will see Christ in each other. We will be joyful and experience solidarity in mission.
Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself? We will respect and honor each other. We will not compete with one another. We will acknowledge our differences. We will care for ourselves and for one another. We will create a safe space for confrontation and disagreement among ourselves. If we need help, we will ask for it.
Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being? We will strive for social justice. We will ask others what they need. We will find God in New York City.
