The Rev. Joan R. Watson, Class of 1984, of Medford, NJ and Summerfield, FL, died peacefully on September 25, 2013 in Alpharetta, GA at the age of 77.
Watson was born in Runnemede, NJ to Charles and Isabel Watson on March 7, 1936. She attended Audubon High School and graduated in 1953. She went on to earn undergraduate degrees in business and social work. She received a Master’s degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania before earning her Masters of Divinity from General. She was ordained priest by the Rt. Rev. Vincent Petit on October 1, 1985.
Watson owned and operated the Keg Root Beer stand with husband, Irvin West, Collingswood Heights, NJ and later Marlton Counseling in Marlton, NJ. She was the rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Pemberton, NJ for many years before retiring in 2006. She continued to work as a supply priest for the dioceses of NJ and Florida. She enjoyed gardening, reading, bird-watching, traveling and her two beloved dogs, Nicki and Pal.
Watson is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Isabel, and her husband, Irving Lippe. She will be missed by her surviving family, brother, Dick Watson, daughter, Sue (John) Hamilton of Alpharetta, GA, sons Ron (Pat) Lippe, MD of Hummelstown, PA, Jeffrey (Mary Anne) Lippe of Pittsford, NY; and ten grandchildren as well as four nephews and their families.
A funeral service was held at Christ Church, Magnolia on October 5, 2013, with the Rt. Rev. George Councell and the Rev. Robert Critelli officiating.
