IN MEMORIAM: Norman Bray '07

The Rev. Norman Hart Bray (Class of 2007), died suddenly Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at the age of 62. The unexpected death of this recent alum left the General community in shock, as well as the parishoners of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Marianna, Florida, for whom he was rector and spiritual leader. He died of an apparent heart attack in a classroom of the church, where he had gone to rest that afternoon. Bray was born on September 2, 1951 in El Paso, Texas, and grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from Bishop Byrne High School in 1969 and served in the Navy from 1969 to 1975. He worked in the automotive industry for 25 years before attending General, and served St. Luke's since his ordination.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lee and Mary Brown Bray.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Eileen Bray of Marianna; one daughter, Emily Watson and husband Evan of Daphne, Alabama; one son, Matthew Bray of Robertsdale, Alabama; two grandchildren, Jack and Evelyn Watson of Daphne, Alabama; five brothers, Michael Bray and wife, Mary of Columbia, Maryland, Stephen Bray and wife, Mandy, of New London, North Carolina, Mark Bray and wife, Carla, of Memphis, Tennessee, Phillip Bray and wife, Amy, of Greenville, Alabama and Tim Bray of Angola, Louisiana; two sisters, Suzanne Martinez and husband, Joe, Laura Bray, all of Charleston, South Carolina; many loved nieces and nephews.
