The Rev. George Dibrell Young, Jr., Class of 1952, died peacefully on March 28, 2014 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was 89 years old. He is survived by four children, Elizabeth, George Young III (current Bishop of East Tennessee), David, and Virginia, as well as ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Young attended the University of the South until he joined the United States Army, serving in Europe during World War II. After the war he completed his undergraduate studies at Sewanee before attending General. After his ordination in 1952, he served at St. Mary's in Madison, Florida and St. James in Perry, Florida.
He served as rector of the Church of our Saviour in Mandarin, Florida from 1955 to 1972, when he became the assistant chaplain and a teacher at Jacksonville Episcopal High School. After many years of teaching, he retired, serving as associate rector of All Saints Episcopal in Jacksonville until 2013.
The funeral service was held April 5, 2014 at Saint John's Cathedral in Jacksonville.
