Michael E. Macdonald, Class of 2000, died on June 7 at the age of 66 at his home in Louisville, Kentucky, after a brief illness. Born December 27, 1947 in Berkley, California, Michael grew up in Grandview, Missouri graduating from Grandview High School and the University of Missouri with a BA in Accounting. He was drafted into the Army and served in the Finance Corp from 1970-1972, helping to develop the method of salary distribution still used by the Army today. After receiving an honorable discharge, Michael returned to his job with Peat Marwick Mitchell and Co., now KPMG, where he continued to work for over 25 years, in offices located in St. Louis, Missouri; New York, New York; and Montvale, New Jersey.
Macdonald attended General after his retirement in 1996. He went on to work for The Episcopal Church Pension Group in New York City, retiring in April 2013 to Louisville, Kentucky. He was a long-time member of The Episcopal Church and active in various musical groups, social, and volunteer organizations.
He is survived by daughters Mary Macdonald, Janette (Macdonald) Merrill and her husband, David; two grandsons, Colin Shaffer and Colson Merrill, former spouse, Kathleen (Macdonald) Garrett and long-time special friend, Istvan Olah. He was predeceased by parents, Stanley Macdonald and Betty Jo (Dyer) McBride, brother, David Stanley Macdonald, and beloved son, David Michael Macdonald.
The funeral service was held at Christ Episcopal Church, Ridgewood, New Jersey, on June 17. Interment followed at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, New Jersey.
