The Rev. H. Milton Cole-Duvall, Jr. (Class of 1982) was honored recently with the 2014 Iowa Citizen of Character Award in the Adult Category on August 1, 2014. This award recognizes Iowans who show good character, act on just morals and principles, and are outstanding citizens. Cole-Duvall is a member of the West Des Moines School Board and has served on the Iowa Commission of Persons with Disabilities. He remembers being inspired at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington in 1963, as he listened to Martin Luther King, Jr. He says that he has tried to step out boldly where others refuse to go and live his life asking, “If not me, then whom? If not me, then why not?”

Cole-Duvall is married to the Rev. Mary E. Cole-Duvall, and they serve as the Assisting Priest and Rector, respectively, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in West Des Moines, Iowa. They have three children: George, who nominated his father for the award, and Leah, and Mary-Scout.
