Beyond the Close: Lecture on Episcopal Bishops and Slavery

On January 14, 2015, in the South Court Auditorium of the Schwarzman Building of the New York Public Library, Dr. T. Felder Dorn will present a lecture titled Battle of the Bishops: A Slavery Controversy in Pennsylvania in 1863. The lecture examines the means in which Episcopal bishops confronted slavery during the Civil War. Dr. T. Felder Dorn is writer in residence at the New York Public Library's Wertheim Study and has written a related book, Challenges on the Emmaus Road: Episcopal Bishops Confront Slavery, Civil War, and Emancipation. Dr. Dorn utilized the Christoph Keller, Jr. Library special collections here at General during his research. All members of the public are invited to this free lecture.
