The Bronx Inter-Parish Council is organizing a bus trip from Atlanta, Georgia, Hayneville, Alabama, Birmingham, Alabama; and Washington D.C. from Thursday, August 13 to Tuesday, August 18 to participate in the 50th anniversary of the Jonathan Daniels Pilgrimage in Hayneville, Alabama on Saturday August 15th. This trip is being coordinated with the Bronx Inter-parish Council (IPC), which is a collaboration of several Afro-Caribbean and African-American parishes in the south Bronx. Jonathan Daniels, who was an Episcopal Seminarian from EDS, was martyred in Hayneville, Alabama in 1965 while protecting a young African-American female named Ruby Sales (who is also expected to be in attendance). Jonathan's feast day is August 14.
All members of the GTS Community are invited to participate as this is a time where we can share in solidarity and reconciliation about our history as Episcopalians and social justice as well as represent the GTS community. If you are interested, please express interest now: deposits are due by June 1st.
Financial assistance is available. Please email Tommie Watkins, Jr (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have questions or are interested in attending this journey. Please see the following flyer for more information:
