The Rev. William Lawson English, Class of 1965, longtime Rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, West Brighton, New York, died on August 25 at the age of 79. Born in Cambridge, Maryland, English graduated from Cambridge High School in 1954. He graduated from Wesley College in Dover, Delaware, in 1957 and the American University in Washington, D.C., in 1960. English worked in the office of the United States Treasurer in Washington, D.C., from 1960 to 1962, before attending The General Theological Seminary and being ordained in the Diocese of Easton in 1965.
Prior to his 32 years of service at St. Mary's, English served as Rector of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in East New Market, Maryland, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Hurlock, Maryland, and the Chapel of the Epiphany, Preston, Maryland. Upon retirement in 1999, he returned to Cambridge, where he lived in his childhood home until his death.
Surviving English are several cousins. A memorial service was held on September 12 in St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
