On February 26, 2016, Anne Silver, Adjunct Professor of Ascetial Theology and Consultant to the Center for Christian Spirituality, presented at a lunch sponsored by The General Theological Seminary during the 2016 Conference of the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes (CEEP) in Denver. The presentation, attended by about 50 people, was titled "Pray As You Are: Spiritual Growth and Prayer Groups in Parishes." Silver spoke about how Church members and inquirers have different needs and styles, so one size doesn't necessarily fit all for parish spirituality groups. She gave examples of approaches that can be geared to the interests of a variety of people—groups that may be led by well-prepared lay people. Silver also talked about how to design groups that are welcoming and accessible, especially to newcomers, and discussed the importance of being clear about group norms and expectations at the outset, to create a trustworthy space for sacred work. At the end of the presentation, Silver offered a three-page handout of resources for further exploration.
