The Rev. William D. White, Class of 1954, died on his 93rd birthday, Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Maryland, he served Episcopal churches in Maryland, Arizona, New York and Maine. For more than 10 years following his retirement, Fr. White served as volunteer chaplain at Parkview Medical Center, Brunswick, Maine, and has been a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick. One of his primary avocations was involvement in a 12-Step Program through which he was able to counsel.
Born at Seaford, Del., May 2, 1924, he was the son of Raymond T. and Amelia Elliott White. He grew up in Salisbury, Md. After graduation from Wicomico High School, he served three years with the Army during World War II.
After graduating in 1951 from Daniel Baker College, Brownwood, Texas, he enrolled at General.
Fr. White was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Nancy Adams White, in 1986, and his brother, Donald R. White. He is survived by four sons, Paul and his wife, Candice, of Dresden, ME, Patrick and his wife, Betty, of Pavilion, N.Y., Michael of Bath, ME, Mark and his wife, Jo, of Woolwich, ME; a daughter, Mary Beth Smith, and her husband, Gordon, of Brunswick, ME; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A Eucharist will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 27 Pleasant St., Brunswick. The Rev. Carolyn Eklund, Class of 1998, will officiate.
