B.A. Luther College; M.Div. Harvard Divinity School; Certificate of Lutheran Studies, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago; Th.D., Harvard Divinity School. Professor Shaner's current research focuses on the religious practices of enslaved persons among early Christians in the ancient city of Ephesos. She teaches a wide variety of courses, including Introduction to New Testament; Slaves and Slavery in the New Testament; The Corinthian Correspondence: Bullies, Bodies, and Barbarians; Revelation and the Apocalypse; New Testament Greek; and Coptic. Prof. Shaner's research interests include, material culture in early Christianity and Judaism; household religions in the Ancient Mediterranean; constructions of race, class, and gender in early Christianity; feminist and womanist biblical interpretation; and the ethics of biblical interpretation. She is an ordained pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). |
