A New Call for Michael Bird ‘97

The Rev. Michael Bird, Class of 1997, and a former member of General’s Board of Trustees, has been called as Vicar of Trinity Church Wall Street as of January 1, 2021. Bird previously served since 2004 as Rector of Christ Church, Bronxville, NY.

Bird received his bachelor’s degree in history from Swarthmore College before attending General. His first position after ordination was at St. Mark’s in New Canaan, CT, where he began as Associate Rector for Youth and Family Ministry. He grew up in Philadelphia and moved to Jacksonville, FL as a teenager.

In making the announcement, The Rev. Philip A. Jackson, Trinity’s Priest in Charge remarked “Throughout his career, Father Bird has focused his work on building and fostering vibrant communities of faithful people – [Christ Church] “like Trinity, draws its diverse congregation from all around it, offers beautiful music and liturgy, has a deep and cross-generational commitment to being family, and looks outward to serve its community. Bringing Father Bird to Trinity…will add day-to-day support and guidance for our beloved congregation.”

Bird’s installation will be broadcast live on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 3 pm.
