IN MEMORIAM: Jerry Moser ‘64

Jerry Moser at one of his and wife Carol’s favorite places in a rocky, desert area a couple of hours away from their home in Cape Town. Jerry was always drawn to desert areas, particularly the Sinai desert, which was a central theme in his memorial services both in Cape Town and in Geneva.

Gerard (Jerry) Stoughton Moser, Class of 1964, died in Cape Town, South Africa, on July 19, 2021, at the age of 83 after a brief illness. He was Rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Geneva, Switzerland from 1976 to 2000. A successful heart transplant performed in Geneva in January 1995 gave Jerry an additional 26 years of life.

Born April 28, 1938, he is survived by his wife Carole Hambleton-Moser in Cape Town, South Africa; a son Jason Moser, his wife Stephanie Doléac Moser, and two grandchildren Chloé and Alexis, all in La-Tour-de-Peilz, Switzerland; a daughter Michelle Moser in Confignon, Switzerland; a step-daughter Alicia Harrell and her husband David Harrell and two grandchildren Olivia and Thomas, all in Atlanta, Georgia; and a brother Donald Moser and his wife Linda York in St. Louis, Missouri; and a sister-in-law Anastasia Moser in Washington, DC.

A memorial service was held at Emmanuel Church in Geneva, Switzerland on October 16, 2021 and the ashes were buried in a columbarium at the church.

Jerry is sadly missed by all his family, friends, and the parishioners of Emmanuel Church.
