Philip Linder ’85 Named Canon to the Ordinary in South Carolina

During this year's recent annual convention, Bishop Ruth Woodliff-Stanley announced she has called the Rev. Dr. Philip Linder, Class of 1985, to serve as Canon to the Ordinary. The position will support the diocese's work in healthy governance, leadership and development, and pastoral connections.

Linder most recently served St. Mark's, Charleston, retiring as priest-in-charge in June 2021. He previously served as Rector at St. John’s, Versailles, KY and Dean of Trinity Cathedral in Columbia, SC., and before that at St. Martin in the Fields and Holy Trinity in Atlanta as well as Grace Church, Long Island.

Linder received his Bachelor’s from Villanova before attending General, and has subsequently received a Doctor of Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA (1983) and a Doctor of Psychology from the Graduate Theological Foundation, South Bend, IN & Oxford, England (2006).
