Trip to the Holy Land

Virginia Theological Seminary is marking its pilgrimage of 200 years in many ways. From plays to sonnets to books to art, we are “marking the moment.”

Pilgrimages are also an exciting way to remember that all of us are on a journey. The Rev. J. Barney Hawkins IV is now leading a Lenten pilgrimage with the Rev. Russell J, Levenson to the Lord’s Holy Land. The St. Martin’s Pilgrimage is 68 pilgrims from St. Martin’s in Houston, Texas. Dr. Levenson is rector of the largest parish in the Episcopal Church with just under 10,000 active members.

The first four days of the current pilgrimage will be in the Galilee. There will be five nights in Jerusalem. The adventure will end in Jordan with an audience with King Abdullah in Amman and a visit to Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Please do consider upcoming VTS pilgrimages to England, France and the Holy Land. Do remember any member of the GTS community is welcome to join these pilgrimages. Keep the pilgrims from St. Martin’s in your prayers and may they return safely from a transforming, life-giving journey.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and President of General Theological Seminary
