Faculty Bio

The Rev. Dr. April Stace (any pronoun) is the Director of Contextual and Competency-Based Learning and Visiting Professor of Practical Theology at General Seminary. She holds a Ph.D. in Religion and Culture from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. and has served as clergy in both large and small parishes. A priest in the Episcopal Church, April relishes crossing denominational, religious and cultural lines.

Stace has a background in music and was a professional harpist for most of her adult life, releasing 4 albums with her harp/bass/drums band, Harp 46, three of which spent time in the top ten on the World/New Age radio charts. Her background in the arts informs just about everything she does, including her most recent writing project, a memoir about being a hospital chaplain and coming out (again) as queer in midlife.

As a resident of the Finger Lakes region of New York State, Stace lives with her partner, Lou (they/them), and her son, Luke. Together with many others she works on nurturing a non-traditional family, forming community, and finding beauty in the ordinary. In her spare time, she takes long walks, teaches harp lessons, provides spiritual direction, bakes obscene amounts of cookies, and is learning the banjo.
