A New Call for Maryann Younger `20

The Rev. Maryann D. Younger, Class of 2020, has been called as Rector at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Durham, NC. She has been serving as the curate of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Wilmington, Delaware.

A second-career priest, Younger previously had 22 years of executive experience as the Director of a Montessori School, leading national efforts to increase and reward volunteerism, and actively guiding an Episcopal Preschool as its Founder and Board Chair. Before hearing the call to ordained ministry and attending seminary, she spent many years as a lay leader whose responsibilities included pastoral care, preaching, designing worship, and empowering lay ministers.

Experienced in deep listening and relationship-building ministries, she served 4 years as a chaplain in a children’s hospital, led and created multiple programs that prepared laity to provide pastoral care, prayer, and visitations, and guided individuals and nonprofit organizations through transformational times.

Using an entrepreneurial approach, she works to reimagine the future of the church today. Over the past 7 years, she repeatedly created liturgically based worship that engaged the disengaged, generated new ways of family and children’s worship, and enhanced and developed welcoming ministries.

Her first service at St. Philip’s is expected to be Sunday, October 10.
