The Rev. Canon Jason Leo, Class of 1992, has been appointed as Provost of Trinity Cathedral in Miami, FL. Leo was unanimously elected by the Cathedral Chapter and his election was affirmed by the Right Reverend Peter Eaton, the Bishop of Southeast Florida. As the provost, Leo will function in every respect like a dean, but in a special relationship with the Bishop.

Leo currently serves as the interim dean at Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati, Ohio, and as the Canon for Transitions and Congregational Vitality for the Diocese of Southern Ohio.

A dynamic leader in the Episcopal Church, Leo has served in both Ohio and Texas, and is known for his ability to lend stability, clarity, and humor to the congregations he serves. He is also known for his hands-on contributions to Habitat for Humanity, providing much needed affordable housing in the Cincinnati area. Leo is a frequent contributor to Forward Day by Day, a publication of Forward Movement.

“I am so excited to join the community of Trinity Cathedral in Miami,” says Father Leo. “I feel that my time as interim dean of Christ Church Cathedral has well prepared me to assume this new role.

“I look forward to serving such an ethnically and culturally diverse congregation and supporting Trinity as a place for contemplation, worship and ministry to the community. I humbly ask for the parish’s prayers as we begin our journey together as a people of faith committed to living out God’s will in the Miami area and beyond.”

“We are delighted that the Chapter has called Father Leo to be the provost and to be a leader among us in the next era of the life and ministry of Trinity Cathedral,” Bishop Eaton has said. “As the oldest church in continuous use in the original City of Miami, Trinity Cathedral has a unique role to play as a center for the spiritual and cultural life of the city, as well as a beacon of active social ministry. We are confident that under Father Leo’s experienced guidance, the Cathedral community will live into an exciting future of ministry and service to the congregation and the wider community.”

Leo is the son of Patsy Leo and the late James R. Leo, Class of 1962 and a former General Seminary trustee.
