IN MEMORIAM: Harry Woggon ‘63

The Rev. Harry Arthur Woggon, Class of 1963, died Saturday November 26, 2022 at Deerfield Retirement Community in Asheville, North Carolina.

Woggon was priest, pastor, poet, pioneer pilgrim, husband, father, friend, spiritual guide to many, and a faithful son of General Seminary. He was the son of the late Arthur C. Woggon and Jane Lormor Woggon of Rochester, NY. He received an AB from Hamilton College, Clinton NY, and an MA in History from the University of Oregon, before receiving his MDiv from General.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Genelda Kepley Woggon; his four children and their spouses, Annelle Woggon and Kenneth Ratcliffe, Christa Woggon Nierzwick and Mark Nierzwick, Karla Woggon and Steve Walker, and Stephen Woggon and Carol Woggon. He was blessed with and survived by 10 grandchildren, and countless friends.

He served in specialized ministry in the Episcopal Church, and as an administrator, counselor, and therapist for the mental health system of North Carolina. Using many of these skills he later became an Intentional Interim Specialist primarily working in congregations in the Episcopal church going through difficult transitions. He was the author of a book of poetry, Journey to the Center as well as two other books,Transfigured into Wholeness and Gratitude’s Attitude: A Pioneer’s Pilgrimage.

The funeral will be held on Saturday December 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Asheville NC. In lieu of flowers please send donations in honor of Harry Woggon to Valle Crucis Conference Hermitage or to St Mary's Episcopal Church for children's ministry.
