IN MEMORIAM: Jane Gaeta ’02
The Rev. Dr. Jane S. Gaeta, Class of 2002, of Fountain Hill, PA, died Wednesday, February 9, 2022, aged 79. She was the beloved wife of The Rev. Dr. Gerard Gaeta with whom she shared over 57 years of loving marriage. Born on December 7, 1942 in Elizabeth, NJ she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Stella (Misiur) Lubonieck.
Gaeta started her career as an RN working in various hospitals in New Jersey, Ohio and Portland, Oregon. Later in life she was called to serve as a Lutheran Pastor and earned a Master of Divinity, Master of Sacred Theology and Doctor of Ministry. She remained rostered in the Metropolitan New York, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She served parishes in the Metropolitan NY Synod ELCA, NJ Synod ELCA, and the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem.
She also served as staff chaplain at St. Luke’s Hospital, Amsterdam House in Manhattan, NY and Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, NY. Courageously she was present and available at 9/11 ground zero. At the time, several ranking members of the NY City Fire Department were members of her Bayside, Queens Congregation.
She served as Instructor at George Mercer School of Theology, Garden City, NY and as Adjunct Professor here at General. Pastor Gaeta was very attentive to her Spiritual Direction of a number of directees. More recently, she served as Priest Associate at Trinity Episcopal Church, Bethlehem where she provided a healing and spiritual care ministry.
SURVIVORS: The Rev. Dr. Jane S. Gaeta will be lovingly remembered by her husband, The Rev. Dr. Gerard Gaeta; son, Gregory Gaeta; daughter, The Rev. Susan Gaeta and her husband, Richard Vila; grandchildren, Andrue Cooper and Grace M. Vila; brother, Steven Luboniecki.
