IN MEMORIAM: Kenneth Polglase ‘56

The Rev. Kenneth Alexis Polglase, Class of 1956, most recently of Heritage Harbour, Annapolis, MD, died March 26, 2021 at the age of 89.

Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn on September 10, 1931, Polglase graduated from Wagner College, Staten Island in 1953 before attending General. He was ordained an Episcopal Priest in 1957 in the Diocese of Long Island, and began his 40-year active ministry as an assistant at two churches on Long Island.

Polglase then moved to the Diocese of Newark where he served as Rector of St. Martin's, Maywood (1960-1964), then as Rector of Church of the Epiphany (now Trinity Episcopal Church), Allendale (1964-1985). During this time, he earned a Master’s degree in Family Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison. He also served the diocese on the Department of Finance - Chairman, Committee on Review Class of 1970,1973; Diocesan Council Class of 1984; and Ecclesiastical Court Class of 1976 and Class of 1987.

After leaving Allendale, Polglase and his family relocated to Long Valley, NJ and he cut back to part-time ministry. In 1998, he and his wife Carolyn relocated to Maryland, where he continued to do part-time supply ministry until health problems made that no longer possible.

Polglase enjoyed caring for his tropical and Koi fish, refinishing old furniture, crabbing, and photography.

In addition to his parents, Alexis Talmadge Polglase and Hazel Ruth Griesemer Polglase, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Carolyn Honeycutt Polglase (in December 2020), and his brother, Donald Lloyd Polglase. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Donna and Stephen (Randy) Haselton; Christopher and Mary Margaret Polglase; Geoffrey and Paula Polglase of; and Andrew and Carolyn (Carrie) Polglase; plus grandchildren Hannah Polglase and Colin Pinkham, David and Stephen Haselton, and Timothy, Zachary, Matthew, Benjamin, and Samuel Polglase.

Arrangements for a joint service celebrating the lives of both Fr. Polglase and Carolyn Polglase will be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in Fr. Polglase's name to The General Theological Seminary or Hospice of the Chesapeake.
