Dr. Anne Silver is Affiliated Professor of Spiritual Direction and Director of the Center for Christian Spirituality. According to her, the favorite part about teaching at General is the students, because the courses she offers attract a wide variety of people with a wide variety of gifts, interests and experiences. She enjoys the opportunity to share her decades of experience in this field with a new generation of spiritual guides and church leaders.

Silver received her Master of Arts degree in Spiritual Direction from General Seminary in 2002. Prior to coming to General, she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (Phi Beta Kappa) from William Smith College, Master of Arts in Counseling from New York University and a Ph.D. in Counseling from Fordham University. After extensive experience as a counselor at Kingsborough Community College and then a spiritual director at Grace Church Brooklyn Heights and Church of the Nativity, she came to General in 2007 to develop and teach courses in spiritual direction and lay ministry. To sum it up in her own words, she says, "I feel called to be here."

Silver has extensive experience as a spiritual director at the Grace Church in Brooklyn Heights and Church of the Nativity in Brooklyn, and as a counselor at Kingsborough Community College. Her books include Trustworthy Connections: Interpersonal Issues in Spiritual Direction and Where You Go, I Shall: Gleanings from the Stories of Biblical Widows. She conducts retreats and quiet days on topics such as “Finding God in All Things,” “Finding Sabbath in Ministry,” “Grieving: From Isolation to Community,” and “Biblical and Modern Images of Widowhood.”
