Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin in New York
On Wednesday night, it was lovely to be at a dinner with Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin. The timing of the event had been brought forward because the Bishop had been invited to participate in the coronation of King Charles and therefore had to be present for the rehearsal tomorrow, which meant flying out that evening. It was the first time in my life that I had been at dinner where the speaker had to leave early for a coronation.
The occasion was the 136th Annual Dinner of the The Church Club of New York. Naturally, GTS alums were everywhere. I had countless conversations about the future of General Theological Seminary. Some where hopeful; others less so.
Bishop Rose is an inspiration in so many ways. When appointed, she was the first black Bishop in the Church of England. She speaks thoughtfully and powerfully about the witness of the Church. She knows that where God is, possibilities abound. In so many ways, as we think about the future of GTS, Bishop Rose is an important voice to hear.
