IN MEMORIAM: Peter MacLean ‘55

The Rev. Peter Duncan MacLean, Class of 1955, died June 14, 2021 at the age of 90.

Born September 6, 1930, MacLean attended Trinity College, Hartford, CT before the call to ordained ministry and matriculation at General.

MacLean served churches in Brooklyn, Sayville, St. James, and Shelter Island in New York, as well as in Maine, Virginia, North Carolina, and Vermont. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy where he served as a chaplain assigned to the US Marines with a tour in Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years Margaret, their son Matthew, and children from his first marriage, Elizabeth, Max, and Margaret; Grandchildren, Sam, Erin, Sarah, Calvin and Ethan; Great Grandchild Nolan, and a sister Judith Webber. He was predeceased by daughter Andria, and Great Grandchild Miles.

A Service of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Church, South Burlington, VT at a later time.

Burial of cremains will be at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Shelter Island, New York, where he served for 17 years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Mary’s Church, Shelter Island, NY, or to All Saints Church, South Burlington, VT, where he and his wife Margaret attended for 24 years following retirement.
