IN MEMORIAM: Rand Frew ’72

The Rev. Rand Frew, Class of 1972, of Princeton, West Virginia, died Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Born May 30, 1947 in Parsons, Kansas, he was the son of the late Everett Frew and Betty Headlee Frew of Parsons, Kansas. The son of an army sergeant, Frew spent most of his childhood on army posts from Fort Ord California to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, and several posts in between. He attended Parsons High School where he lived with his grandparents while his father was serving his second tour of duty in Korea.

Frew graduated from The University of Nevada Las Vegas before matriculating at General. He was then ordained an Episcopal priest at Christ Church in Las Vegas, Nevada. He then served as the Pastor of St. Mathew's parish as well as a visiting pastor to several remote parishes in northern Nevada. He then became the pastor at Holy Apostles Church in New York City, where he founded the Holy Apostles soup kitchen. He later founded AIDS Action International, a nonprofit foundation furthering the education and understanding of the worldwide aids pandemic. He worked tirelessly at the site of the World Trade Center collapse site.

Father Frew loved to travel, all music, but especially opera and operettas. He brought his devout faith to people all over the world.
He is survived by his brother, Ridge; four nieces; three nephews; six great nephews; and five great nieces. He will be interred next to Margaret and Everett Frew, Sr., his beloved grandparents, in Parsons, Kansas on March 25, 2023. Arrangements by Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
