A New Call for Spencer Cantrell ’18

The Rev. Spencer Cantrell, Class of 2018, has been called to serve as Priest-in-Charge at historic St. George’s Church in Astoria, Queens.  

Cantrell has served at All Saints’ Church in Park Slope, Brooklyn since 2019. He was called as Curate after completing a clinical residency in pastoral care at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and was appointed Associate Rector in 2022. Prior to that, he served as Priest Associate at St. Mary’s Church in Harlem. 

Born and raised in rural west Tennessee, Cantrell came to New York as an Episcopal Service Corps member and worked as a legal advocate in the New York City Courts with the Community Development Project at the Urban Justice Center. During his time at St. Mary’s, he worked closely with the RDJ Refugee Shelter which specialized in housing LGBTQ+ asylum-seekers.

Cantrell holds a B.A. in Philosophy/Religion from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and an M.Div. from General Seminary where he received the Bishop of Newark Preaching Prize and the Martyrs of Memphis Award for Outstanding Service.
