A New Hymnal from Chris Webber ’56

The Rev. Christopher L. Webber, Class of 1956, has published a new hymnal for folk who like to sing - and for people who care about justice and peace. Songs of Justice, Peace, and Love: the Sharon Hymnal is a collection of over a hundred hymns set to music by contemporary composers as well as traditional and familiar tunes. The texts center on a wide range of subjects from Advent to Easter as well as hunger and homelessness. Many hymns could find immediate use by the assembly; others may inspire composers to create music uniquely suited to them.

Webber now lives in San Francisco and assists at All Saints Church. Webber is an Episcopal priest and author. A prolific author, Webber’s previous collections of hymn texts include A New Metrical Psalter (1986) and Hymns from the Bible (2000). His Recent books include Dear Friends: Letters of St. Paul to Christians in AmericaAmerican to to the Backbone, a biography of James W.C. Pennington, a remarkable pre-Civil war abolition leader, and Beyond Beowulf, the first-ever sequel to the old English saga, Beowulf.

Songs of Justice, Peace, and Love: the Sharon Hymnal  is published by World Library Publications, a division of GIA Publications, and available on line at: https://www.giamusic.com/store/resource/songs-of-justice-peace-and-love-print-003434
