A New Ministry for John Thompson-Quartey ’97

The Rev. Canon C. John Thompson-Quartey, Class of 1997, will join the Candler School of Theology in fall 2023 as Director of the Episcopal and Anglican Studies Program (EASP) and professor in the practice of church leadership. Thompson-Quartey has served as Canon for Ministry and Congregational Vitality in the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta since 2014 and has worked to revitalize campus ministries and increase student participation, including the launch of three new campus ministries.

Originally from Ghana, Thompson-Quartey graduated from Rutgers University before earning his M.Div. from General. Before coming to Atlanta, he served as rector of St. Mary’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., for 9 years. Earlier he was Chaplain for Pastoral Care and Director of the Community Outreach Program at St. Paul’s School in Concord, N.H., and Associate Rector for Youth and Family Ministries at Christ Church in Ridgewood, N.J.

Thompson-Quartey trained in adaptive leadership through the Clergy Leadership Project. He has held numerous leadership positions, including being a past member of General’s Board of Trustees and Alumni Executive Committee, and is the current vice president for social justice for the National Brotherhood of St. Andrew.
