The Rev. Kuruvilla "Sunil" Chandy, Class of 1995, has been called to serve as Canon for the Central Collaborative of Eastern and Western Michigan and Coach for Digital Communities.

Initially ordained in the Church of South India in 1992, Chandy was received into The Episcopal Church through the Diocese of Newark in 1998. With a focus on building trust and growth after trauma, Chandy has served five Episcopal congregations ranging from mission to program size. Most recently, he served as rector with Christ Episcopal Church in Westerly, Rhode Island--one of the diocese's fastest-growing congregations. He is also the host of a video podcast, "Food for Thought" which has viewership in over 16 countries.

Chandy holds a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Rutgers University and Masters of Divinity from General as well as Princeton Theological Seminary. He is currently working on a Doctor of Ministry degree from GTS, concentrating on digital ministry.

As Canon for the Central Collaborative, Chandy will coach, encourage, and equip congregations in the middle belt of the Eastern and Western Michigan dioceses in areas of congregational development, transitions, and aligning with diocesan mission and vision. His specialty as Coach for Digital Communities focuses on supporting all congregations across both dioceses in establishing or further developing offerings for worship and belonging through online platforms.
