Congratulations to Dr. Doug Mohrmann

Institutions are precious for many reasons: and one of them is that they create space for scholars to explore questions that are often technical yet crucial to our understanding of the past.

Today, I want to celebrate the publication by Dr. Douglas C. Mohrmann at GTS of Deuteronomion: The Text of Codex Alexandrinus. Codex Alexandrinus, as every good seminarian knows, is one of the earliest manuscripts of the Bible in Greek from the fifth century. Doug provides both a new transcription with a fresh translation with the goal of exploring the ways that Deuteronomy would have been read and studied.

Now I confess I have not yet held a copy in my hands; however, I am deeply curious and am looking forward to engaging with this text. This is important, painstaking scholarship – a commitment of years and years to complete. So, today, please acknowledge and celebrate with Doug this monumental achievement.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
